Creator Douglas Adams clearly had a ball putting together the consummate comedy sci-fi cult classic, THE HITCH-HIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. A writer with some serious concerns about the world we live in, including environmentalism, conservation, and technological innovation, Adams manages to weave his ideas into a phantasmagoric galactic creation which keeps the audience laughing. Originally written as a BBC radio broadcast in 1978, Adams’ brainchild was ultimately adapted into a multi-media stage presentation, novels, comic books, a 1981 video series, a 1984 video game, and a 2005 feature film. It was also the first comedy series done in stereo, which led to lots and lots of memorable sound effects.

THE HITCH-HIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY spins the tale of the last man of Earth (who morphs into the last woman on Earth at the Wallis). Martha Dent (Siera Williams) ne Arthur finds herself in a precarious position as she tries to prevent her house from being flattened – along with the entire planet – when a Vogon construction fleet arrives to build a hyperspace bypass. Given that the Vogon are a very task-oriented group who will not deviate from their plan. Martha finds herself in serious trouble. Happily, a rescuer comes in the nick of time. He’s a human-like alien named Ford Prefect (Sina Pooresmaeil), whose moniker demonstrates who he thinks is the dominant species on Earth. Soon Martha and Ford will be taking a galaxy tour second to none as they stow away on a space ship bound for parts unknown.

Things only get stranger when they encounter Zaphod Beeblebrox (Kelvin Morales and Helya Salarvand), the two-headed president of the galaxy; Marvin (Lucia Towers), a very depressed and paranoid android; and Trillion (Jo Rodriguez), a second surprise Earth survivor. Narrated by Schuyler Girion, THE HITCH-HIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY spins on its merry way through Martha’s misadventures as she tries to understand what’s going on in this bizarre universe, which turns out to be quite a task. Especially for a certain brilliant computer named Deep Thought (Bernadette Sullivan) who may hold the secrets of the cosmos.

The cast of THE HITCH-HIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY has more than its share of spirited energy, enthusiasm, and non-stop vitality in this merry romp through the universe as we know it. Directed by Madeleine Dahm, the production is rampant with puppets, masks, acrobatic dance, and all manner of creative interactions with the audience. THE HITCH-HIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY will prove manna for its many eager fans as they follow Martha’s journey through the stars. This is a colorful, noisy, weird, and exciting tale enhanced by Bosco Flanagan’s lighting and production and sound by Madeleine Dahm, who wears two hats in the show. Satire and insanity hold hands in this slyly clever, often hilarious piece.
